Nunc Dimittis

Elizabeth Birkshire Brothers Sherman, age 91, of Little Rock, Arkansas, died on July 21. She was a longtime active member of the Central Arkansas AGO chapter and served as Dean from 1970-72. She was organist at various churches in Little Rock, including Pulaski Heights Presbyterian Church and St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Sherman is survived by two sons, a sister, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Impressions of the Organ: American Organ Archives Symposium

May 23-30, 2005, New Brunswick, New Jersey

Although advertised as an eight-day event,
the third biennial symposium sponsored by the American Organ Archives of the
Organ Historical Society (this year with co-host, the Music Department of the
Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University), consisted of four days of
organ recitals, lectures, and panel discussions. The remainder of the eight
days gave participants a generous amount of time to visit the Archives in
Princeton, a short drive from New Brunswick.

Remembering Wilbur Held 1914–2015

Wilbur Held, composer, teacher, and servant “gentle and humble in heart” (Matthew 11:29), died on March 24, 2015, in Claremont, California, a few months shy of his 101st birthday. A deeply thoughtful and meticulous musician, Held crafted elegant preludes, postludes, and hymn settings that remain central to the repertoire of church organists around the globe.
