Nunc Dimittis

The McGill Summer Organ Academy took place in Montreal from July 8–18, 2013 during a fearsome heat wave. This biennial two-week event, which was founded in 1997 by Artistic Director John Grew, brings together teachers and students from all over the world and takes advantage of the great variety of first-rate organs in a small area of downtown Montreal near the McGill University campus.

Even within the context of the Italian organ's rather simple tonal structure, by incorporating effects and accessories it has taken up new sounds and new dimensions

"English concert organist John Scott is recognized not
only as one of his country's finest organists and musical leaders, but
also as one of the most gifted of his generation of concert organists in the
performance world today." So begins John Scott's biographical
sketch in his management's brochure. Scott's stellar career
includes serving as Director of Music at St. Paul's Cathedral and
(formerly) Professor of Organ at the Royal Academy of Music, many tours and
recordings with the St. Paul's choir and as organ soloist, and a dizzying
array of other appearances and awards.

The 43rd International Conference on Organ Music, Marilyn Mason, director, sponsored by the University of Michigan, was held October 5–8, 2003, in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, Michigan. The offerings this year represented Germany, Holland, France, Russia and the United States, and the organ music ranged from the beginnings of the North German-Dutch School through the twentieth century.
