Nunc Dimittis

Barney Childs,
composer and music educator, died at his home in Redlands, California, on
January 11, at the age of 73. Born in Spokane, Washington, on February 13,
1926, he moved with his family to Palo Alto in 1939. He earned the BA from the
University of Nevada, a BA and MA in English and literature as a Rhodes Scholar
at Oxford University, and PhD in English and music from Stanford University. As
a composer he studied at Tanglewood with Carlos Chaves and Aaron Copland and in
New York with Elliott Carter.

Cor Edskes, organologist, leader in the organ reform movement and historic organ restoration in Europe, and former editor of Het Orgel, died September 7, 2015, in Groningen, the Netherlands. Further information and tribute will be published in a future issue of The Diapason.

The United Church of Christ Musicians Association presented its tenth national conference at Elmhurst College (a UCC four-year college) in Elmhurst, Illinois, on July 12–15, 2015. The conference provided choral concerts, an organ recital, a handbell concert, creative worship services, workshops, exhibits, and time for conversation with colleagues.
