Marilyn Mason—legend in her own time, musician and teacher of international renown, torchbearer for composers, organ builders, and students, ground breaker, and pioneer—was honored in this year’s 53rd Conference on Organ Music. Mason has been consumed by a magnificent obsession, and has shared her mantra “eat, sleep, and practice” with hundreds of students at the University of Michigan.

From 1920–1940, the organists at churches in Oak Park, Illinois distinguished themselves, certainly by talent, but also by hard work and a vision that went beyond playing hymns for their congregations

The accomplishments of Hellmuth Wolff, André Guilbault and Guy Thérien, Fernand Létourneau, Gabriel Kney, and Gerhard Brunzema. along with the activities of other known organbuilders of the 1990s, will be described in chronological order, according to their founding dates, in this article.

Lloyd Holzgraf died November 11 in his Montecito, California
home at the age of 70. For 38 years he served as organist at First
Congregational Church of Los Angeles, where he was responsible for the design
of the great organ of 346 ranks, 265 stops, and 20,000 pipes.
