The “Anton Bruckner” International Organ Improvisation Competition takes place April 15–16 and the Brucknerhaus in Linz, Austria.
The competition is open to organists up to 35 years of age.
First round preselection consists of two parts: an improvisation in one or several parts with polyphonic elements on the following theme by Hans Haselböck; and a free form based on the picture, Black Rectangle Blue Triangle by Kasimir Malewitsch (1878–1935), 1915. The style can be freely chosen for both forms, up to a maximum of 15 minutes in total.
Recordings of the improvisations on CD, on another data storage device or online (no editing allowed, but the recordings may be separated into two files) must be sent by February 8, 2021 at the latest, either by post to Brucknerhaus Linz, “Orgelimprovisationswettbewerb,” Untere Donaulände 7, A-4010 Linz, or via email to JanDavid.Schmitz@Liva.Linz.at; in the case of a postal delivery, the date of the postmark is decisive.
The jury includes Martin Haselböck, Jeremy Joseph, and Martin Riccabona, and will choose eight participants to compete in the main round from the contributions sent in, which will be anonymous to the jury members.
The Brucknerhaus houses a Rieger organ, three manuals, 53 stops, installed in 2018.
