Jean-Baptiste Monnot recital

On June 8 Jean-Baptiste Monnot presented a recital on the 1890 Cavaillé-Coll organ at St.-Ouen Abbey Church, Rouen, France, in celebration of his ten years as co-titular organist there. He performed Modest Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition, transcribed by Jean Guillou.

In 2019 Monnot became artistic director of the organ festival on the St.-Ouen organ. He founded the Association of the Saint-Ouen Abbey in Rouen in 2021 to preserve and promote this abbey. This association organizes guided visits, publishes on the history of the church and its restoration, and presents 30- to 40-minute organ recitals each Sunday at 5 p.m.

Monnot is organ professor at the Regional Conservatory in Rueil-Malmaison. He created, designed, and constructed a transportable and modular pipe organ (the Voyager’s Organ), and he performs regularly with ensembles and orchestras around the world. In 2021 he recorded works by Marco Enrico Bossi on the organ of St. Ouen for the label Berliner Orgelpower.
