Tiffany Ng receives award

Tiffany Ng

Tiffany Ng, associate professor of music, university carillonist, and chair of the department of organ at the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, Ann Arbor, was one of five recent recipients of the university’s Harold R. Johnson Diversity Service Award. The annual awards, named after the Dean Emeritus of the School of Social Work, recognize faculty in any field whose service goes above and beyond their regular duties and contributes to the development of a culturally and ethnically diverse campus community.

The award citation highlighted Ng’s commitment to commissioning works by diverse composers, including the first Native American and African American composers commissioned to write for carillon (Connor Chee and Wilbert Roget II, respectively); her publication of open-access resources such as the “International Bibliography of Carillon Music by Women, Transgender, and Nonbinary Composers” and “Annotated Bibliography of African American Carillon Music”; the website CarillonWomen.org, a comprehensive resource on the history of women and the carillon; and her work to create an inclusive outdoor campus climate through music.
