Sinsinawa Dominicans present summer organ recital series

Warren Apple holds a high school diploma and undergraduate degree from the North Carolina School of the Arts. His graduate degrees in organ performance are from the Eastman School of Music. Further studies have been with Anton Heiller and Arthur Poister. Dr. Apple is currently organist and choir director at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church in Charleston, SC, and is associate professor of music at the University of South Carolina-Aiken, where he holds the Pauline F. O'Connell Chair in Fine Arts.

Having taught in the field for the past 34 years has prompted me to reflect on its rich opportunities as well as its perils for those desirous of a walk down similar paths. Few students in graduate studies working toward career paths in college or university teaching can anticipate the realities awaiting them upon successfully joining this guild. In the paragraphs that follow I will share a few of my experiences in hopes that the information will benefit those seeking to pursue an academic career.

Carillon dedication

A new carillon on the North Campus of the University of
Michigan, Ann Arbor, will be dedicated during a special ceremony on Thursday, October 19 at 9:00 p.m. During the spring and summer, the instrument is to be installed in the new and modern tower designed by the late architect Charles Moore of Austin, Texas. The dedication ceremony is planned to include music played on the new carillon and music performed by the University of Michigan Symphony Band, by itself and with the carillon.
