The musicians of the Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris observed the anniversary of the fire at the cathedral, and produced this video: "Ruht wohl" from Bach’s Passion according to St. John.
"On 15 April 2019, Notre-Dame de Paris caught fire. For us, different generations of musicians who have served the cathedral, it wasn’t just a building that caught fire; it was our house, our home. Its vaults have carried us and inspired us throughout our studies, our careers, our lives. One year later the wounds are still open, our pain is just as strong, as if the fire is still burning. In these worrying times in which confinement separates us, it is Notre-Dame that has once more brought us together…"
Translation of "Ruht wohl": Rest in peace, you holy bones, Which I shall no longer mourn; Rest in peace, and bring me too to peace.
