Clara Gerdes will present a concert at St. Mark’s Chapel, on the campus of the University of Connecticut, Storrs, May 1, at 7 p.m.
Entitled, “A Crystal Ball: Hear the Past, Envision the Future,” the program features music perfectly suited for the newly restored Brombaugh organ, Opus 21: works by Bruhns, Bach, Brahms, Prokofiev, and Peeters.

Clara Gerdes, from Davidson, North Carolina, is a fourth-year student at the Curtis Institute where she studies organ with Alan Morrison and harpsichord with Leon Schelhase. She was the winner of the Albert Schweitzer and UNCSA School of the Arts organ competitions and the recipient of the first annual AGO Pogorzelski-Yankee scholarship. She has performed on the East Coast, including at the Cathedral of St, John the Divine and the Washington National Cathedral, and at Spoleto and Oregon Bach Festival. Clara serves a one of the two organ scholars at St. Mark’s Church, Locust Street, Philadelphia, and enjoys collaborating with area early music ensembles and occasional substitute duties on the Wanamaker organ.
