Richard Coffey named music director emeritus of Hartford Chorale

Richard Coffey

Richard Coffey, who retired in May as music director of the Hartford Chorale, Hartford, Connecticut, after 17 years of service, has been named music director emeritus of the organization.

During his tenure, he introduced artistic tools such as paid vocal section leaders, an assistant music director position, and a renewed audition process, elevating and maintaining artistic quality in the community. He partnered effectively with the chorale’s primary performance partner, the Hartford Symphony Orchestra, and introduced the chorale to other organizations, choral and orchestral, that allowed the chorale to expand its reach in the community, across the state, and beyond. Coffey worked with the board to revise its strategic plan and other board governance topics and strategized with the board and membership to embrace touring.
